OOhhhhh Dice, just when I thought I couldn’t spend more money on the Dresden Files, you guys produce something to make my heart sing (or some such ;-> ).

Can we put in pre-orders just so we can mark our turf so to speak. I’d hate to miss out on some!

    Yay! Dresden Fudge Dice.
Everywhere has been sold out since I found out Dresden RPG was using the fudge system.

Now if only there was more swag.
    Play mats, generic figures.
I know there is no chance and I have been asking forever but…

    Hi fred,

my Paris store, Starplayer (http://www.starplayer.fr/) ordered some copies of the game and of the dice to UK provider, and kept one of each for me. My precious are now safe with me!!!

Fudge or Fate dice are 6 sided dice, 2 are blank, 2 are + and 2 are -.
Basically, a + adds to your attempt, while a – subtracts from it, and a blank doesn’t affect one way or the other. You roll 4 fate dice, and tally the result. So, if you got (+, +, blank, -), it would be a net +1 to your attempt. (as I understand it)

I can’t get the Forums to activate my account. I’ve tried resending the activation codes multiple times, but nothing ever comes through.

I’m using a hotmail account, could that be causing the problem?
Yes, I have checked my junk folder, but its not there either.

Any help would be much appreciated, thank you!

@My Dark Sunshine, could be. Send an email to feedback (at) jim-butcher.com (don’t forget that hyphen) and our industrious forum folks should be able to help.

@fred Just thought I’d check in. I’ve yet to get a reply. It is possible I got the address wrong of course, I take it the (at) should be the @ sign, as with most email addresses? I copy & pasted the address you gave, removed the spaces and changed (at) for the appropriate symbol.

Unless of course even the feedback site does not receive emails from hotmail accounts? Or viceversa? Although I doubt my account would filter it as spam (I’ve checked the folders to no success), when it lets through blatant spam.

Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated, cheers!

@My Dark Sunshine, every email I’ve seen come across to the feedback box has gotten a reply from the forum admin folks. Maybe try again? If you’re coming from a hotmail address, that could be half the problem — I’ve rarely seen hotmail users reliably receive messages and replies. :P

@fred, I appreciated the continued help. Having just followed your suggestion or trying again, I immediately received a response. It seems they activated my account last time, but their reply never got through, thus I was unaware. Probably hotmails fault as you say, its unreliable.

Thanks to both Fred & the feedback group!

Are there any plans for supplements, figures, adventures, etc.? I’d love a book with more structured magic abilities… That’s the real challenge for a game like this where magic and what you can do with it is pretty open… It’s ripe for abuse by players. I’ve got both books, and a few sets of Fate dice, and plan to do a campaign after my existing D&D one has run its course.

@Chris M, we’ve put out a free adventure (found in the Downloads section on this site) with a couple more in the works, and we hope to have a bigger, printed supplement for the game out sometime over the next year.

Thanks! I’d be willing to purchase supplements, especially those offering new templates, new powers, more refined magic rules, etc. If publishing adventures for sale, would be nice to include some fold out maps, etc. for encounter areas. I did look over the free adventure, and I think it’s a great idea.

I’ve played a lot of RPG’s with magic as a theme, I’d have to say that DFRPG is great, I mean I know that the magic is “vague” but it’s also structured, I mean it requires Role-playing. You have to describe the effect and determine if it’s an Attack, Block, or Maneuver. Not to mention that under “Spell casting” it gives you guild lines, but unlike some other games these guide lines keep it fair. Personal I love that way spell casting is handled in DFRPG… It’s bloody brilliant.

I just received my Wizard Fudge dice…they are awesome. One die, however, has an inking failure (extra ink on the face). Is there a way I can get it off without marring the face? Should I take this up with the vendor?

I know it isn’t really anything to complain about, but I am a designer and I can’t deny the impact on aesthetics.

    May 13th, 2011 at 08:36 | #19

You might have some success employing a delicate touch with an x-acto knife or a needle. I haven’t tried to remove any ink, myself, so I can’t be sure about the marring.

Which of the colors of dice has the issue? Unfortunately with these things in such limited supply at this point it may be difficult to get that die replaced…

The die in question is a red one. I’ll try the hobby knife approach and see if I can do it without marring the surface. I knew the dice would be in short supply…I’m just happy you were able to make some at all!@fred

What’s the chances of getting some Dresden Fate Tokens. Denarius style. Anything us fans can do to help make it happen?

  22. fred
    June 2nd, 2011 at 17:43 | #22

@Eric Crabtree , it’s not a priority for us right now, and when we’ve dug into the cost issues it’s looked like we couldn’t easily achieve a price point we’re actually happy with.

I’ve never played an RPG, but I want to play this so bad as I’m a huge fan of the Dresden Files. Is there possibly any way to play this game on the internet? Or is there anyone in the range of Iowa or South Dakota I may speak to about it?

I’m looking for a group to play Dresden Files in person. My regular gaming group has slowly moved further and further away, so as of a couple of weeks ago it is too far for us to meet anymore. I live in Maryland on the Eastern Shore and am looking for players from the Maryland and Delaware parts of the Eastern Shore. If anyone lives close enough just message me and we can start working out where to meet and things like that when we get enough people.

I have a account on the Jim-butcher website forum and a post like this you can read and click my name to send me a message. Acid Relic

    Thanks

    AcidRelic

P.S. I’m more of a player than a GM so would like someone to take GMing duty.

Re the Jade Court vampires: I’ve got no idea what Mr. Butcher may have in mind for the JCV, but for the adventure I’m designing I’ve decided that Ayn Rand’s ‘banality of evil’ definitely applies.
The JCV are the most subtle and pervasive of vampires. They are everywhere that bureaucracy can screw up the plans and dreams of mortals, everywhere that corruption can rot moral fiber. Wherever greed and avarice are seeded, the JCV are the gentle rain that nourishes their growth.
If government regulations relating to a given process or issue are mutually contradictory, preventing anything getting done, the JCV had a hand in drafting them.
If funds meant for charitable work are diminished by bribery and mis-appropriation, if shipments of goods sent to relieve suffering are stolen, a Jade Court vampire is feeding on the resulting anguish.
Anywhere someone is lying awake at night, sick at heart with worry about the morrow (underwater with a mortgage, falsely accused and/or convicted of a crime he/she did not commit, living/working in a toxic or exploitive environment because the ability to escape the conditions does not exist, brutally forced into prostitution), a member of the Jade Court is feeling satiated.
Jade Court vampires do not start Ponzi schemes or engage in political graft. They just whisper in the ears of those who do, knowing that when schemes collapse, they will be there to harvest the despair of the victims.
They generally do not commit crimes themselves: financial gains they win, if any, are merely incidental to the manipulated angst that they must have in order to survive.
They are everywhere. Lawyers, bankers, religious leaders, bookies, government clerks. They work beside you, live near you, sit beside you (or behind you …). Even other vampires are the Jade Court’s prey. They are the hardest to recognize, to truly identify; the Sight merely shows a slight grayness about them. They do not look monstrous to anything less than a Soulgaze.
Conversely, they are the easiest to kill. Any weapon that can kill a mortal can kill a Jade Court vampire. The problem afterward is proving that it was a justified homicide: the corpse is just like a mortal’s dead body, too. All the weight of the law will be against you.
As parasites go, they are one that we just have to live with. After all, when you look at your reflection in the mirror, is it a Jade Court vampire looking back?

The forum seems to not exist at this moment, so I’ll ask my question here:

The PDFs for the books have page hyperlinks. The ones within each book work for me. I can also click on links that claim to go to pages in the other book, but they don’t do anything for me. What needs to happen for them to work? Do I need to rename my PDFs?

  28. Fred Hicks
    January 18th, 2012 at 12:07 | #28

The links to pages in other books don’t link through — no way to be sure if or where the other file is, so there was no point in putting them in (not that I think the software *knows* how to put them in).

  29. Ezra
    January 18th, 2012 at 18:38 | #29

I was confused because they show up as links, complete with my mouse pointer changing when I mouse over them.

In-game, I took down my mentor by absorbing his soul and placing it into my dagger (used for Summoning/Binding). He was possesed by a Fallen One at the the time. Is this death by magic?

  31. Adam
    February 15th, 2012 at 09:14 | #31

Personally I would vote yes. Your intent was to use magic to kill and bind him. So although his soul has not been sent to the afterlife/nevernever you have deprived his body of its soul, ie killed with magic.
