Playtesting

March 30th, 2010

Playtesting applications are closed as of the relaunch of this site!

We got over eight hundred applications while we kept the application open in 2008 — an exciting (if daunting!) number.  At this point, we have more that enough of a pool to draw on for any future playtesting rounds.

To date, we’ve run two playtests — the Bleeding Alpha and the Burning Alpha.  Now, we’ve moved into a quiet period while we do lots of revision and work towards text completion.

As of right now we’re not planning on doing a public beta round, as we’ve mentioned in our May Status Update post. Better to get the book done sooner!

I’ve been reading Dresden Files since freshman year of high school, back when book 3 or 4 was released in paperback. I’ve been a devoted fan since then and still continue buying the books each year in spring. As a member of a college roleplaying club, I look forward to the release of this game with rabid anticipation.
Good Luck with your project and hope to play it soon.

Just wanted to say that as a long time fan of this series, since Storm Front was published, I am very much looking forward to this RPG. Keep up the good work!

Hey guys! You guys rock! Long time gamer, 16 years now, long time fantasy reader, 18 years now(‘long time’ is only my perception :) )

Anyway! I have only just now discovered the DFRPG after finishing Turn Coat tonight, which was FANTASTIC! Jim Butcher is great. Anyway! I don’t think you should limit the number of applications you’re taking. And I’ll tell you why, I never got to submit mine!

Personally my RPG group would be a perfect group to playtest this, we’ve got half the group who’ve read the books and know all the canon, and half the group who hasn’t read the books and is available for face-melting good times! Anyway, we’ve played a variety of RPGs for the last 16 years, going through multiple editions of each game system (ie: Shadowrun, World of Darkness(all of them), AD&D 2/3/3.5/4? no way for 4, Gurps, Alternity, the list goes on).

What I’m trying to say here is I have a ready group of 30 something gamers who’ve been through the gauntlet of games, books, video games, systems, number crunchers, conventions, rule mongering, Magic the gathering. The amount of knowledge we have racked up is astounding, at least I think so.

We’re a diverse group with a few women, wives and girlfriends, a few 30 somethings, a few 40 somethings, and even a teenager for the new perspective.

Ultimately, a member of our group took first place in the roleplaying tournaments we used to have in our cities in Iowa for the 4 or 5 years they were hosted by a local shop. Every year a member of our group took first. That’s nothing to shake a stick at.

Not only are we a talented group of gamers, we’re avid readers, and have a few aspiring authors.

Lastly – I think we’d be a valuable group to have as beta testers. Plus I’m selfish and want to get my dirty little fingers on it before anyone else!

Consider it, e-mail me, call me, write a message in the clouds, send a telegraph, or just roll a d20 and know that I’ll confirm your crits for you.

    Nate

yeah i’d be one of the people that applied lol. Me and my group are doing our own Dresden files game using WoD 2.0 rules until your book comes out or we somehow get into a future round of beta testing.

I’ve heard a rumor about a dresden files rpg playtesting recording. Any chance we can get to hear it if one such recording exists>

I like the idea of Dresden WOD 2.0. Mind if I also get those mods from you?

If Nate gets in, I should too…

I’ve got a whole store of willing volunteers. It helps, basically running your FLGS.

Anyway, can’t wait to see this unfold, now that I’ve found it.
