Finding Evil Hat at GenCon

August 2nd, 2010 by fred

Just a quick note for folks going to GenCon — while Origins was our big-deal convention of the Summer, we will still have a presence at GenCon!

Folks from the DFRPG crew who will be there: Ryan Macklin, Amanda Valentine, and Clark Valentine. (Sadly, no Fred, Rob, Chad, or Lenny.)

Where to get the game: Exclusively at the Indie Press Revolution/Evil Hat Productions booth! Booth #2339. (Here’s a map with some useful vendor links.) Ryan, Amanda, and Clark should be at the booth at various times, potentially running booth demos and definitely signing books.

We also hear there will be a few games on the schedule (likely sold out long ago) and some play at the Games On Demand area as part of the Indie Games Explosion. Check it out!

Summer Convention Season & Playtest Update

July 30th, 2008 by fred

Hi folks! Sorry about the lack of updates these last couple months — the Summer convention season has had us swamped. While we’re continuing to work on the RPG (despite a computer crash slowing down one of our writers), we’ve lacked that crucial extra chunk of time to update folks on this blog.

So what’s new? Well, we recently kicked off the Burning Alpha Playtest. This is the second alpha round, with another 20 or so playtesting groups selected out of our pool of over (yikes!) 750 applicants. Stacey Chancellor, one of our Burning Alpha playtesters, has started collecting links to the various places you can see the Burning Alpha underway, over on the Dresden Files RPG Livejournal Community:

Evil Hat will be attending GenCon, as a part of the IPR / Forge Booth (#1939) — and by that we mean lead developer Lenny Balsera, setting guru Chad Underkoffler, and Evil Hat owners Rob Donoghue and Fred Hicks will all be there, along with other members of our writing and editing staff. Come on by and pick our brains!

And while we’re on the topic of GenCon, the Ennie Awards voting is underway, and Evil Hat’s product Spirit of the Season is up for an award for Best Supplement. We’d love to get your support with just a couple minutes taken to vote (you don’t have to vote on everything, just the stuff you’re familiar with).

If you’d like to familiarize yourself with Spirit of the Season before casting a vote, please do! We have a completely free 40-page version (trimmed down from the 72+ page version that’s for sale) available on DriveThruRPG:

Thanks, everyone!

August 6th Updates Post

August 6th, 2006 by fred

Evil Hat will be at GenCon. Fred Hicks will be sitting at
the Lulu booth off and on from Friday to Sunday, just
across from the Forge and Indie Press Revolution booths.
He’s the guy with the blue hair (no joke!) — feel free to
drop by and grill him about anything having to do with
Evil Hat products, including the Dresden Files RPG.

EVIL HAT PRODUCTS NOW AVAILABLE AT INDIE PRESS REVOLUTION

Evil Hat’s entered into an agreement with Indie Press
Revolution to have IPR operate as one of our main
storefronts. Right now we only have Don’t Rest Your Head
listed there, but you can expect our future products will
be carried by IPR as well.

MORE NEWS ON SPIRIT OF THE CENTURY

As you’ve heard previously, Evil Hat will be releasing a
pulp-themed RPG using the same core system (though with a
significantly different take on supernatural powers) as
the Dresden Files RPG. This will be titled Spirit of the
Century, and we’re pretty excited to be releasing it.
It’ll be in a 6×9 format, with over 300 pages of pulpy
goodness for your enjoyment.

We’ve released some preview materials for Spirit of the
Century, and as an update to the timeframe, we’re
expecting Spirit to start preorders within the next month,
with it shipping by the beginning of November.

You can find the preview materials by following the links
found here:

If Spirit looks like a game that would interest you (or
even if it doesn’t!), we’d certainly appreciate you
filling out our quick “product demand check” survey here.
It shouldn’t take more than 3 minutes to fill it out:

Getting an accurate sense of the demand of the product
will make sure that we keep as much of our funds available
to keep the Dresden Files ball rolling as well, so your
help is certainly appreciated!

DRESDEN FILES DISCUSSION SIGHTINGS

RPG.net’s given birth to a short discussion thread on the
Dresden Files RPG (as well as a few other things). If
RPG.net is your kind of thing, it may be worth poking your
head in and seeing what’s up — feel free to use the
thread to post some of your most pressing questions.

DESIGNING DRESDEN WILL RETURN

Rob and Fred are busy getting geared up for GenCon Indy,
but we hope to get some more Designing Dresden posts out
there once we’re back and, honestly, less distracted.
Stay tuned!

Thanks

Evil Hat to Appear at DexCon 8

June 13th, 2005 by fred

Rob Donoghue of Evil Hat Productions and one of the authors of the Dresden Files RPG will be attending part of DexCon 8. Dexcon 8 runs from Wednesday, July 13 to Sunday, July 17th; Rob will be there at least for the weekend, starting Friday morning.

He’ll kick off Friday with a demo of the Dresden Files RPG (at least as we’ve got it so far!). Here’s the description of the event:

R187: Fate: The Dresden Files; “Meddling Kids” by Rob Donoghue. An INDEPENDENTLY PUBLISHED GAME from Evil Hat Productions – Part of the Indie Games Explosion! There are strange goings-on in the old Montrose place, so what are a ragtag group of wizards, creatures, halfbreeds and couch surfers supposed to do if not meddle? A tongue in cheek romp through Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files universe. Friday, 10:00AM – 2:00PM; One Round; All Materials Provided. Beginners Welcome!

Outside of this event, Rob will be making the rounds, and will be happy to answer your questions, do off-the-cuff demonstrations of various parts of the game, and generally shoot the breeze.
